Samsung continued a string of pre-CES news with an upgrade of its core HD compact camcorder. The HMX-Q10 is unique in having a design that can work either left- or right-handed. A magnetometer in the camera can judge the camera's relative position and pivot the preview LCD to display it properly.
The barrel-shaped camera also relies on a five-megapixel, backside-illuminated CMOS sensor that should be friendlier to low light environments. It can record up to 1080i or 720p video through its 10X image-stabilized lens. SDHC cards make up the near exclusive storage medium, but an HDMI output provides a raw preview of footage on TVs.
Samsung plans a quick ship for the Q10 and will have it in US shops in February for $299.
